Narec to expand its offshore renewables team
15 October 2009
The New and Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) is planning to strengthen its team as it gears for the development of a new £10 million marine renewables drive train test rig, Project Nautilus.
Project Nautilus received funding from the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in July this year.
The new 3MW facility will be built on the existing campus in Blyth and will provide a simulated testing environment for new prototypes to accelerate the development of new wave and tidal devices onshore, before they are ready to be deployed in the open sea. This facility will allow developers to test and improve the reliability of their devices throughout the development process, from medium scale prototypes through to full-scale commercial devices.
Narec has created several new professional positions at its headquarters in Blyth, Northumberland. The new vacancies include opportunities for programme managers, engineers, commercial managers and an oceanographer.
The team would support the business in the delivery of proposals for the expansion of testing and technology development infrastructure.
Narec is a national centre for the UK dedicated to accelerating the deployment and grid integration of renewable energy and low carbon generation technologies.
