It might seem silly but a large number of homes in Sweden are heated through biodiesel and so it would be perfectly legitimate to actually increase the temperature of these homes as a way to increase the proportion of energy generated from renewable sources. What utter madness considering it would in fact go no way at all to actually combating raising global temperatures.
A more useful and realistic target I feel could be to set energy efficiency and renewable energy targets to be made in tandem. Simple using renewable energy is not the same as combating global warming. Ultimately we need to reduce out dependency on energy but for the energy required in order to sustain the lifestyles we are accustomed to and to allow economies to continue to be driven forward in a more sustainable manner requires energy to be generated from renewable source.
I think a large gap in the quest to tackle global warming could better approached through cooperation and collaboration. There needs to be a meeting of the mind from back to black people (oil and Gas) who have worked within a very successful offshore oil industry to past on their handy hint and tips to offshore renewable technology developers. After all there is no mistaking the huge challenges which go hand in hand with installing, not to mention operating and maintaining something deep at sea. But nothing is plain sailing and indeed considering the buoyant state of the oil and industry that can be kept busy with enhanced offshore oil recovery and engage with carbon capture and storage techniques, how can we convince them that marines are in fact a big deal and will certainly diversify their portfolio? I would welcome a chance to chat to anyone who has a few ideas on this point.
