Following the Crown Estate’s announcement at the end of September about the Pentland Firth region’s focus for commercial tie-in for sea bed leasing for marine energy developments, Highlands and Islands Enterprise is pleased to offer an organised visit to the area at the beginning of November--one of a series that we have been holding this year to showcase the area for marine energy development.
The time scale to register expressions of interest in obtaining a lease is from mid November until mid December this year, so our visit from 4th to 5th November presents an excellent opportunity to look at the area’s potential first hand.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise will cover all costs once delegates arrive at the airport; including food and accommodation for the duration of the visit. Delegates need to make their way to Wick, ideally by catching the Eastern Airways flight that leaves Aberdeen on Tuesday November 4th at 9:20am and arrives at Wick at 9:55am. On the Wednesday we will be happy to transport delegates to the airport to catch the 11:10am flight from Wick to Aberdeen (arriving in Aberdeen at 11:45am) in time for delegates to attend the Scottish Renewables Forum Marine Energy Seminar in Aberdeen on Thursday November 6th - see web link attached.

There are opportunities to view local facilities including ports and laydown areas, and to meet with local supply chain representatives (fabrication companies, environmental consultants, service suppliers, researchers) as well as the Pentland Firth Tidal Energy Project staff.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is the Scottish Government's economic development agency for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. It is committed to building the region into a world leader in the development, production and use of renewable energy. Independent reports show that the Pentland Firth contains six of the top ten tidal energy sites in UK waters – and is one of the best tidal resources available anywhere in the world. There is also a significant wave resource in the west of the region.
As part of its renewable energy investment programme, HIE is working closely with the Pentland Firth Tidal Energy Board to capitalise on the tremendous marine energy opportunities in the area. Established in 2007 the Project brings together the area’s principal agencies working in partnership, providing the key contact for device developers, investors, utility companies and the supply chain.
The Project Vision is to support the development of a globally important marine energy industry in the Pentland Firth to the significant benefit of the local and national economies in a sustainable and environmentally aware way.
The Pentland Firth Tidal Energy Project Team is happy to meet with you on 11th and 12th November at Tidal Today on Stand 3. We are delighted to be part of such an excellent networking opportunity and look forward to meeting industry representatives who are interested in the exciting prospects our area can offer the marine industry.
