Does renewable energy really have the support of the government and Utility companies?
Published on Jun 19, 2008
The expression Blue Energy has recently been coined to encapsulate any energy derived from the ocean, but what exactly should we be expecting from 2008?

At the end of the day the ultimate goal is to be able to produce electricity at a completive price in order to satisfy the demands of utility companies - simple!

But a recent revelation has thrown more than just a spanner in the works!

It has been disclosed to Tidal today that utility companies have been told to avoid large renewable projects as this could jeopardize them being consider for the new nuclear projects. But surely the government should be moving away from nuclear- I hear you cry!

But lets face it, not only have these nuclear plants already been designed they have been granted the all important licenses and can guarantee a certain base load.

What troubles me most is the fact that reducing your carbon footprint appears to be of greater importance than the method by which you achieve this. Is nuclear a better option that coal or simply allowing us to further delay real action being made to allow renewable energy to become a significant part of our energy portfolio?
